After breakfast my translator (Danilo) phoned to arrange for us to get together to see a bit of the city of Holguin and have lunch. We took a taxi (1953 Chevrolet) to meet him at First Baptist Church.
This time with Danilo give us opportunity to get to know each other before we speak to the youth. Our conversation this morning also helped me to have a better understanding of the needs of pastors such as Danilo, serving in Cuba.
Danilo teaches a Christian Counselling course at the Baptist Seminary and is responsible for overseeing the teaching ministry of First Baptist Church in Holguin. He makes about $20 a month or about .67 cents a day and has very few Christian books for his personal encouragement and growth. Christian books are not sold in Cuban stores. This situation is the same for all pastors in this country.
In the afternoon we met with Lester Acosta, the Director of Youth Ministries for the Eastern Baptist Convention. He gave us a better understanding of what would be happening over the next few days. I will be one of three main speakers for the Conference.
I spent this evening preparing my second message for the conference.
